- Too early First ChatGPT brand campaign (2026) A campaign about everyday uses, with out-of-home and paid social from September 29, running through 2026 across nine US markets and the UK, anchored by tentpole sports broadcasts. It was built by OpenAI's in-house creative team with agency Isle of Any. The CMO said over 700 million people use ChatGPT weekly. No measured impact has been published. Source →
- Too early Ads in ChatGPT (from February 9, 2026) Ads began for US Free and Go users. A third-party guide says there is no minimum spend, and one advertiser write-up paused its test over a mismatch between OpenAI's reporting and its own analytics. No results were reported. Source →

Usage-share trackers (Sensor Tower, Similarweb) put ChatGPT ahead of Gemini and Claude but disagree on the size of the lead. Gemini's growth is tied to distribution through Search, Docs and Gmail, and Anthropic's Super Bowl ad positioned Claude as the ad-free alternative.
- Borrow Starbucks' people-first approach: feature real users' daily moments as a recurring series, which fits the 'everyday use' campaign.
- A rival is making 'no ads' its main pitch, so publish plain-language rules for how ads work in ChatGPT to protect trust.
- Awareness is already very high, so test messages about what ChatGPT is for instead of that it exists.
How do you balance mass awareness with a clearer brand position?
How do you measure the ads business against trust in the product?
What does the sports-anchored campaign say about the audience you want next?
Heads up. Follower and video counts come from third-party trackers that disagree, and the Instagram sponsored-post figure has no clear year. I found no measured results for the brand campaign. Market-share figures also differ by tracker. OpenAI's own marketing pages are vendor material.
